"Food shouldn’t be an impossible choice. For tens of millions of people in America, a daily meal isn’t a choice between different dishes. It’s a choice between food and other crucial needs—like medicine, electricity, or childcare. This September, join us for Hunger Action Month by sharing how you will end hunger." Feeding America
September is Hunger Action Month. IFM urges you to get involved. Now that IFM has made food distributions available once a week for all recipients, we need more volunteers on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays on distribution days. We also, have Tuesday and Thursday shifts available for packing and preparing food.
Or make an impact by making a donation toward IFM's food program. We work with local farmers and strive to procure food locally when possible. Our program serves 11K+ local western Nevada County residents in need, a year. Send donations to IFM 440 Henderson St. Grass Valley, Ca 95945 or donate online at https://donatenow.networkforgood.org/interfaithfoodministry
If you or someone you know needs access to nutritious food, please visit IFM and get signed up. All distributions include staples like veggies and fruit, bread, rice, proteins, dairy, and much more!

Poverty and Hunger in America & Nevada County
Poverty and hunger in America often go hand in hand, but poverty is not the ultimate determinant of food insecurity. People living above the poverty line are often at risk of hunger as well. Research demonstrates that unemployment, rather than poverty, is a better predictor of food insecurity among people living in the United States.
US Statistics on Poverty The most recent government statistics on poverty collected show that in 2015,
43.1 million people (13.5 percent) were in poverty, including 14.5 million (20 percent) children under the age of 18.
42.2 million Americans lived in food-insecure households, including more than 13 million children.
14,000, or roughly 1 out 7 Nevada County residents live in food -insecure households
